MODVIA - MODular Vision Integrated Architecture
MODVIA is a modular helmet concept designed to improve versatility, safety, and camera integration across multiple motorsport and action sport environments. Research identified a key issue within many sports and road environments: externally mounted action cameras can compromise helmet safety, interfere with impact performance, or violate warranties & regulations due to modifications to certified protective equipment. In many competitions and jurisdictions, helmet-mounted cameras are restricted or banned due to the risk of snagging, altering impact behaviour, or becoming projectiles during crashes. MODVIA addresses this challenge by integrating a flush-mounted camera mounting system directly into the helmet structure. Using a concealed magnetic mounting plate, action cameras can securely attach while maintaining a seamless helmet surface, minimizing potential impact hazards.
The helmet's modular architecture allows users to purchase a single base helmet that can be reconfigured for multiple activities. As shown above, this includes a detachable chin bar, an interchangeable visor system, and magnetic mounting pucks designed for easy accessory attachment. These pucks are also designed to release on impact, while the chassis itself has been designed to withstand forces from a camera-first landing.
MODVIA demonstrates a product development approach that combines safety research, regulatory awareness, and modular industrial design to create a flexible helmet platform suitable for multiple high-performance environments.
